Open Access and Funding
The World Journal of Advanced Surgery (WJAS) is a gold Open Access journal. This means all articles are immediately and permanently free for everyone to read, download, and share, under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This model ensures the widest possible dissemination of surgical knowledge.
To cover the costs associated with publication—including peer review management, professional copyediting, journal production, hosting, and permanent archiving an Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied to papers upon editorial acceptance.
APC Fee Structure (Effective 2025)
The Article Processing Charges (APC) for the journal range between 800–2700 USD, depending on the nature, length, and complexity of the submitted manuscript, as well as the editorial and production resources required for high-quality publication. The APC covers the full peer-review process, editorial assessment, professional copyediting, typesetting, online hosting, long-term archiving, and DOI registration to ensure global visibility and accessibility. These charges support the journal’s open-access model, enabling unrestricted readership and wide dissemination of published research while maintaining rigorous publishing standards.
Payment Policy Note:
APCs are only charged after a manuscript has successfully passed peer review and has been officially accepted for publication by the Editorial Board. There is no fee to submit a manuscript.
APC Waiver and Discount Policy
WJAS is committed to ensuring that lack of funds does not prevent high-quality research from being published. We offer waivers and discounts based on corresponding author location.
Eligibility Criteria (Corresponding Author Location):
- Full Waiver (100%): Granted automatically if the corresponding author is based in a country classified by the World Bank as a Low-Income Economy.
- Partial Waiver (50% Discount): Granted automatically if the corresponding author is based in a country classified as a Lower-Middle-Income Economy.
- Institutional Discounts: Authors affiliated with institutions that have a prepayment or membership agreement with our publisher may be eligible for discounts; please check with your library.
How to Apply for a Waiver:
The eligibility for the standard waivers (100% or 50%) is automatically assessed upon submission based on the country listed for the corresponding author's affiliation. No separate application is required for these standard waivers.
For discretionary waivers (e.g., due to extreme hardship), please email the Editorial Office prior to submission with a detailed justification.
Refund Policy
WJAS does not offer refunds once the APC has been paid. Payment of the APC signifies the author's agreement to the terms of publication. Refunds will not be issued in the event of retraction due to research misconduct or if the author chooses to withdraw the paper after acceptance and payment.
